El señor Friedman tuvo la amabilidad de atender al Blog de Virtualización en Español justo antes de presentar su sesión en el VMworld 2009 en Cannes: Appliances Big Opportunity for Linux, una sesión que recomiendo por la importancia de su mensaje.

Josemariagonzalez.es: Mr. Friedman, thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me. The benefits of moving to a virtualized server infrastructure are long turn; how ready is the Novel Virtualization solution for the enterprise?
Nat Friedman: People have been talking to moving to a virtualized environment a lot. Novel offers a hypervisor solution with Xen. The area I have been focusing on for the last 8-10 years are areas like eliminating software installation errors.. … Installing complex software solutions can take weeks or sometimes months…… I am an IT professional, I have been a programmer since I was 6 years old, most of my friends has similar work and every one had the experience of trying to install an application and failing …….improper installation of software cost up to 50% of support issues….. So the concept we see a lot of value on it is the virtual appliances and how the vendor can distribute the whole solution … What we do here at Novel with SuSe is we are offering a solution that make SuSe Linux the best operating system to include in your platform …..

Josemariagonzalez.es: Can you explain to our readers what it means by the collaboration between Novel and Microsoft to develop new solutions for Virtualization?
NF: … What we have been doing is working on getting both operating system working well together ….If you want to run SuSe Linux Enterprise 10 as a guest on hyper-v, you can do that…and it is going to work well meaning that we actually has the drivers necessary to get the performance out of that combination. And vice-versa, if you want to run Microsoft Server on top of SuSe Linux Enterprise Server 10 the drivers are there too…
Josemariagonzalez.es: Mr. Friedman I am a customer and I am about to virtualized my Data Center, over 100 Physical Servers, and I want to built the data center of the future, my choices are so far: VMware, XenServer, Xen OpenSource (Novel, Red Hat, etc) , perhaps Microsoft Hyper-V … why would you recommend me to use Novel?
NF: ….We think openness is important in an environment. Using an open source solution give you the flexibility to migrate…..We have a program at Novell called the perfect guest. The idea is to get SuSe Linux Enterprise Server to run on any hypervisor …We are the only operating system to do that…. We bundle vmware tools with our servers and we created a relationship with VMware there….. We created SuSe Studio that can be use to put your own virtual appliance and run an application in 5 minutes…
